The Effectiveness of TikTok Tutorials in Enhancing Makeup Instruction through the Modeling Method: A study of University Students in Central Java

Abstract

The integration of social media in learning is an important strategy to address the challenges of the digital generation who prefer visual, fast, and interactive learning. This study examines the effectiveness of using TikTok tutorials combined with conventional modeling methods in teaching Javanese Bridal Makeup for students of the Regional Language and Literature Education Study Program at PGRI Semarang University. Challenges faced include low learning motivation, limited visualization techniques in traditional methods, and a gap in approaches between digital natives and conventional teaching systems. This research is based on the Social Learning theory (Bandura), the Technology Acceptance Model (Davis), and the Multimedia Learning Theory (Mayer), which together explain how technology integration can improve the effectiveness of practical learning. Using a quasi-experimental design, this study involved 15 students divided into two groups: an experimental (hybrid method) and a control (conventional method). The research instruments included a practice test, a motivation questionnaire, and interaction observations over five weeks. The results showed that the experimental group obtained a higher practice score (87.4) than the control group (73.6), with statistical significance (p < 0.05). In addition, learning motivation increased by 42.3% and the engagement level reached 91.2% in the experimental group. These findings confirm that the combination of TikTok tutorials and conventional modeling methods.
